FAQ's FRESHWATER FISH

Q.
How many fish can I have in my freshwater tank?
A. General rule: inch of fish per gallon of water. Example given: 10 one-inch fish in a ten-gallon tank or 2 five-inch fish in a ten-gallon tank.

Q. My fish has little white spots on it that look like salt grains, what is this? What do I need to do?
A. This is a parasite called Ick, and it is quite easy to take care of. You will need to treat your aquarium with medication designed for Ick. Stop in to any of our stores and we can guide you to the many medications that are made for this purpose. Also see Ick under Care Sheets.

Q. Can I mix cichlids with my community fish?
A. No, most cichlids get much too large and aggressive to live with community fish.

Q. What other foods can I feed to my fish?
A. Along with flake and pellet foods there is a large selection of freeze dried and frozen food that are very nutritious and eagerly accepted by your fish.

Q. How often should I change water in my fish tank?
A. That can vary according to a lot of things, but 10 to 25 percent weekly to bi-weekly is a good rule for most.
