The hedgehog is the cute, adorable
animal with the spines all over him. The tips of these
spines are white colored making them look very cool.
Some say holding a hedgehog is like holding a prickly
little ball in the palm of your hand. A hedgehog as
an adult is just 6 inches long from snout to tail
and weighs just 1 pound. Hedgehogs sleep mainly during
the day or will hide during the day underneath something
(they are a nocturnal animal). A hedgehog is very
playful and loves to climb; you will have a great
deal of fun watching them. Hedgehogs are a great pet
that does not take a lot of maintenance.
TIP’S FOR TENDING TO YOUR NEW ARRIVAL:
· You should bathe and brush your new hedgehop
before placing him in his new cage.
· Provide food and water as soon as he is placed
in his cage, never offer milk.
· Handle your hedgehop carefully and only when
necessary.
· Seek immediate veterinary care if your hedgehog
exhibits signs of illness.
CAGE AND ACCESSORIS: We recommend a wire cage with
a plastic bottom, a rabbit cage. The cage should be
24 inches long, 16 inches deep, and 20 inches high
. You will need to have at least one house for sleeping
in. Their sleeping hutch (house) should be either
a wooden hutch or a plastic igloo. You should place
their sleeping hutch towards the top of the cage.
Your hedgehog loves to climb and this is also good
exercise for him. You will need stairs, ladder, or
driftwood in his cage for climbing. We recommend you
place the stairs or ladder up to his sleeping house
for the best arrangement in hedgehogs’ cage.
You should also think about other toys for your hedgehog
to play with.
The bedding for your hedgehog is very important.
It will need to be a layer about two inches thick.
We recommendation is Care Fresh because it is safe
and healthy for your hedgehog. Care Fresh also absorbs
all of the hedgehogs waste and makes your hedgehogs
cage easy to clean.
FOOD DISHES AND WATER BOTTLE: You will need a two
food dishes, which are heavy and made from glass or
porcelain. These dishes need to be heavy enough where
your hedgehog cannot easily tip them over. Plastic
dishes are generally too light and can be tipped over
to easily. One of the dishes will need to be shallow
for placing mealworms worms in. The other dish will
need to be larger for places hedgehog pellets in.
You will need a water bottle with a stopper in it.
You will attach the water bottle to the side of the
cage; this will allow your hedgehog to drink anytime
they wish simply by licking the water bottle. You
will need to give your hedgehog fresh water everyday.
Be sure to place the food and water dishes away from
your hedgehogs sleeping house.
WHEN AND WHAT TO FEED YOUR HEDGEHOG: You should give
your hedgehog fresh hedgehog pellets every morning
along with fresh water. You should give your hedgehog
mealworms three times a week to be sure he is getting
a balance diet and all of his neutral needs are being
met. All food should be given to your hedgehog at
room temperature.
WHAT TEMPERATURE SHOULD YOUR HEDGEHOGS CAGE BE: You
hedgehog should not be in a place in your home where
it is too warm or too drafty or cool. You should never
place their cage near a radiator, register, or any
other heating apparatus. The ideal temperature for
you hedgehog is 70.5 degrees, never below the temperature
of 67 degrees.
